What subjects and grades do you offer tutoring for?
How do you select and vet tutors?

All our tutors are selected and vetted by our founder, Zoie Hoffman. Tutors are required to fill out an application and provide references. Zoie then interviews applicants she feels would be great tutors in-person or via a video meeting. Before bringing on a tutor, she checks their references and runs a child protection background check to make sure that they are a safe and good fit for the company and your child. Our founder requires that all tutors be certified teachers with a heart for building relationships and providing personalized instruction to students.

Yes, we do a child protection background check on all of our tutors.

Do you do background checks?
What qualifications do your tutors have?

Absolutely. When your child signs on for tutoring, they will use a link that is specific to their session. You can use that same link to drop in any time you would like. We do suggest muting your microphone as to not disturb the lesson that is in progress. We can also record your child’s session upon request so that you can re-watch it at your convenience.

Can I drop in on my child’s online tutoring session?

We require that all tutors have at least a bachelor’s degree in education or a related field. Our tutors must also have held a teaching certificate during their career (though most are currently certified teachers). For more information about each of our tutors and their qualifications click here.

My child has had bad experiences with teachers and tutors in the past, how will you handle this?
05 /

We understand that many of our students have had bad, and sometimes traumatic, experiences throughout their education. We try to be extremely sensitive to your child’s needs and experiences. Please let us know about your child’s bad experiences and their specific needs during your consultation call. We will make sure to match your child with a tutor we feel will be able to help your child feel at ease while learning. All of our tutors are relationship focused, and understand the need to help students feel comfortable before any learning can happen.

Why online tutoring?

You can purchase packages of tutoring sessions for your child. The more hours in your child’s tutoring package, the lower the per-hour rate. For more information about our tutoring packages, click here.

We’ve found that online tutoring is a great option for busy families. Your child can receive instruction at home, cutting down on commute time and freeing you up as they receive the help they need! Setting up online tutoring is easy, and most students can handle logging on with minimal help after the first few sessions. With all the available tools online, your child's tutoring session will always be infused with engaging learning materials.

You will need a computer or laptop (no tablets or phones please) with a functional camera and microphone. You will also need a functional mouse (not a trackpad) so that your child can interact with the screen during their tutoring session.

What equipment does my child need for online tutoring?
My child might need help with their homework- how do you do that online?
16/

We can definitely help your child with their homework online! Most students or their parents text or email pictures of their homework or course materials. Your tutor can then bring up the picture on their computer and work with your child while sharing their screen so they can both see the image and write on it together.

Can my Kindergartener or First Grader do online tutoring?
17/

We do have young students who participate in online tutoring. Though online tutoring is simple and easy to use, some kindergarteners or first graders might struggle with mouse or keyboard skills. It is up to you whether you think your child has the computer skills and focus to do online tutoring. We suggest scheduling a free 30-minute trial session to see what online tutoring will be like for your child.

I have a concern about my child’s tutoring sessions- who can I contact?
18/

Please contact us in a way that works for you. We will be sure to get back to you as soon as possible to discuss your concerns.
